"Lombard", Guide Dogs for the Blind puppy-in-training
Lombard graduated as a
working guide!!
His graduation was December 13th, 2003. He is now living and working in California
with a nice gentleman by the name of John, his wife and their
daughter (plus a hamster!)

Here is John and Lombard's
official graduation photo.

The blue bag hanging off the front of his harness contains pickup
baggies for when he is out being relieved.

ceremony.
I love this picture of Lombard, you can just see him staring at
everyone in the audience thinking to himself "I'm the star, they are
all here to clap for ME!!" :-) I seem to be being emotional about
the whole experience in this picture, or maybe I was reciting the
pledge of allegiance.

John's daughter Sidney.

months old, relaxing in his new home. He lives full time with
his family on a 40 foot sail boat.

Sidney together on the boat. Lombard sticks close by his
partner, John (in the background working on the boat) but likes to
snuggle with friend Sidney when he gets the chance.

Lombard at 16 months old This picture was
taken in June 2003, when Lombard was 16 months old. He is SUCH a
handsome guy!

just love him so much, he's such a great dog!
Here are some other 16 month old pictures of Lombard, or Lombard and
Redmond (12 months at the time.)

Lombard at 5 months old This picture was
taken when Lombard was about 5 months and one week old. He has
gotten so dark, it is now hard to take good pictures of him that
show up his face because it all blends into the shadows! He is such
a handsome boy! Compare the picture above to the one right below
(taken at 14.5 months)
he looks pretty similar.

Lombard is almost 15 months
old now! You can see from this picture that he hasn't changed
much coloring wise. He is still very dark, and still has his little
stripes on his toes! He doesn't have quite as much black down the
fronts of his legs. He is a sweet, loving, wonderful dog. He is
about 26 inches at the whithers and weighs 75 pounds now.

Lombard at almost 5 months old He is a
handsome, sweet, and loving boy! He just keeps getting darker and
darker. If you look at this next picture, you can see how even the
back of his head
is starting to turn dark, where only a few weeks ago it was almost
all red/tan between his ears. Compare his coloring in these two
pictures to any of the others taken before he was 4 months old and
you'll see just how much his coloring has changed! He looks more
and more like his dad every day.

Luann, Lucan, and Lombard This
picture was taken on 6/22/02, when the three siblings were just 16
weeks old. Rumour has it that Lucan's floppy ear is now standing
up. Luann is being raised in Washington, and Lucan is in Idaho.
We also saw brother Lawrence at the fun days in CA and hope to have
a picture of him soon! (My camera malfunctioned that day, darn it!)
We attended the GDB 6oth anniversary Open Houses with our friends
LynnAnne and Tiffin and had
a great time. While there I was able to see Angie, Pippin's former
partner and Alberta and her
partner Viola.

Lombard at 11 weeks old, while in California for
Anchorage's graduation. He had a great time at my friend Nancy's
house, bouncing from dog bed to dog bed and
stealing all the dog toys.
Lombard's adult fur is starting to come in, in a
big stripe down
the middle of his back. All my GSDs have had their adult fur come
in this way, but it is much more noticeable on Lombard because he's
a sable. His belly is also all black, and the black on his toes is
getting more pronounced. It will be very interesting to see just
how dark he ends up. I doubt he'll be as dark as his dad, though.

Lombard (yay! another place name dog! Lombard Street
is the "crookedest street in the world in San Francisco, CA) is my
newest Guide Dog puppy in training. He belongs to Guide Dogs for the Blind of San
Rafael, CA. They are celebrating their 60th anniversary this year.

Lombard and his sister
Lace (all black) arrived at the Salt Lake City airport on
April 30th, 2002. They were born 2/28/02 and spent their first 8
weeks at the campus of GDB. They will now spend the next 16 months
or so with their puppyraisers. In this picture are Sandy Begley,
Lace's puppyraiser (holding Lace) and me holding Lombard, and I
believe Sandy's husband and good friend who is auntie to all Sandy's
puppies.
Lucan is an all black male
brother of Lombard. Lucan is being raised by my friends Paula and
Mike in Meridian, Idaho, so hopefully I'll be able to get updated
pictures of him now and then.

This is Ingo Degen von Furheim, the father of my new
GDB puppy in training. Ingo is 11 years old.
My new puppy will be arriving in Utah April 30th, 2002. I can't
wait to get him. It will be a sable male, whose name will start
with "L". He was born on 2/28/02. That is the same day/month as my
very first puppy in training, female black lab Pippin.

Here is Degen doing
a hold and bark as part of his Schutzhund training.
Degen, who belongs to Dottie in New York, has his own webpage
that shows some shots of him when he was a young dog, and also
pictures of some of his progeny. You can see Degen's page at
http://home.att.net/~tracker.gsd/.
Be sure to click on the links to see more photos of Degen and some
puppy photos.
You can see Mr. L's older GSD "brother", Detroit, on his
own web page.
