Keegan has joined my family with relative ease, being accepted by both my dogs. He enjoys playing in the yard with them. He is shown in this picture with Detroit, my GSD.
Keegan was thought to be somewhere between 6 to 8 years old, and after a thorough vet exam, the vet concluded that he was closer to 8 years old. His bloodwork, urinalysis, and hip xrays all turned out fine, in fact his hips look GREAT! He has some age related vision changes in his left eye, that shouldn't cause too much of a problem. Otherwise, he is in great shape. Luckily, Keegan tested heartworm negative the day I got him.
In case anyone reading this is under the impression that getting a rescued dog is a cheap way to get a pet, I'll let you know that I have spent-for my peace of mind on Keegan's health-over $250 on Keegan in the past 2 weeks, and only $65 of that is the adoption fee. Your expenses may vary, as the blood tests and x-rays I had done are certainly not mandatory.
I have had Keegan for almost one year now, and he is still a delight to have. He is a bit insecure, so he really tries to get all the attention he can from anyone with a free hand to pet him. He eats heartily, plays like a puppy, and loves to retrieve tennis balls (but isn't so crazy about giving them back!) Our recent snows have revealed that he loves to run and slide in the snow, and rub his face and back in it.
I hope to be able to add more pictures and some stories to this webpage over the Yuletime holidays. Come back and visit us next year!
