Gustine, Guide Dogs for the Blind puppy-in-training

Gustine was born on March 13th, 2001 at the San Rafael, CA campus of Guide Dogs for the Blind. The names of the dogs in the litter were: Galina, Garcia, Garson, Gemstone, Georgio, gianna, Gracious, Graphite, Guava and Gustine.

Gustine, 9 months, with Nancy
This picture was taken a few days before she left for GDB for her hip eval. You can see compared to the 4.5 month picture displayed below, she has lightened up in the face some, but she's still pretty dark. She's a very pretty dog.

Sitting pretty, Gustine poses nicely for her "adult" pictures.

A very nice head shot even if she does look a bit worried.

I think this was one of the last pictures, she looks very stressed by all the flashing lights, etc.

Gustine at 4.5 months. She is looking much more like a "real" GSD with longer fur, and is growing into her ears. She is a sweet, happy, friendly girl.

On December 16th, 2001, Gustine returned to Guide Dogs for the Blind for an evaluation of her hips. Unfortunately, her hips were found to be pretty badly displastic, so she was career changed, spayed, placed in a pet home. Gustine is now the much loved companion of Kelli and her family in Seattle, WA. Here is a picture of Gustine with her mom Kelli and friend Phil. They also took Gustine to get her picture taken with Santa at yule time.

Here is another picture of Gustine with her canine family (while she was still at my house.) Left to right are Gustine, Anchorage, Nancy, Chynna and Detroit.

Another picture of Gustine with the mom of the family that picked her up from the puppy truck.

So far, Gustine is proving to be a happy, if somewhat noisy puppy. She loves to eat and wants to play with the big dogs, although she is kept on leash so she doesn't pester them too much.

At four months old, Gustine had most of her adult coat in, and i'm happy to report that is is longer than her puppy coat. She "feels" more like a german shepherd now! She is very tall, long and lanky, and her tail is twice as long as Cherilynn the labrador's. She weighed 37 pounds at age 17 weeks.

Before Gustine, I rasied another GSD pup, a male named Anchorage. You can see pictures of Anchorage on his own webpage.

Gustine is a Gerhart/Jaffra puppy, Gerhart's father is Dave, my own Detroit's brother. You can see Gustine's great uncle, Detroit, on his own web page.
