German Shepherd
Dog Rescue of Utah

501(c)3 non-profit status pending

German Shepherd Dog Rescue of Utah works to place loving German Shepherds into permanent homes. These dogs come from a variety of backgrounds, and are carefully screened to check for health and temperament concerns. All dogs placed are wormed, immunized, and spayed or castrated unless their health prevents such surgery. GSD Rescue of Utah serves the intermountain west, accepting and placing dogs in Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona and Nevada.

Adopting an older dog can be a very rewarding experience. Many of our rescues are older dogs that just want a loving home and someone to adore. Please consider making the next addition to your home a deserving senior GSD.

Please consider donating to help fund our Medical Fund. We have had several dogs with extremely high medical bills, so any donations that could be made to help defray the expenses we incurred would be much appreciated. Please send your donation to the address listed below (in the contact section) or use our PayPal donation link. The dogs thank you!

Maggie - Adopted! - 2 year old female, black and tan coloring. While Maggie was being fostered she was involved in a car accident and was thrown from the car she was travelling in. The accident caused several muscles and tendons in her neck to be torn, diplaced several vertebrae, and caused a number of other injuries. She has begun to heal from those injuries and her foster mom has adopted her and continues to work with her to heal from the devastating injuries. She could still benefit from your donations to pay for the over $1200 in medical bills that resulted from the accident (that was just for the emergency care in the first 3-4 days following the accident.)

Please consider donating to our medical fund to assist with the medical needs of our orphaned dogs. Your generous contributions would be very much appreciated!

Thinking about adopting a dog and keeping it outside 24 hours a day? Think again!

"A breeder who has no interest in rescue of what he has produced is of no value to anyone, and of even less value to his breed."
-- Dr. Malcolm Willis, Author, Genetic History of the German Shepherd Dog

People often ask me for recommendations as to local breeders that they can contact to get a puppy. Given that the MAJORITY* of the local breeders, both those who hold themselves up to be reputable breeders *and* backyard breeders alike, are unwilling to take back the animals that they breed, I should think it would be obvious why I am unable to recommend many breeders. So please, don't ask me for a breeder recommendation. Adopt a rescue dog instead!

*Note, this does not mean there are not reputable breeders in Utah, just that I don't usually have the pleasure of running across them in the course of my work with the breed.

How you can help GSD Rescue of Utah

Foster homes are ALWAYS needed, if you can volunteer to house a dog for a few months, we can save a life together!

Donations are always welcome and can be sent to the address listed below. Along with cash to help vet and neuter animals, donations of old towels and blankets, tennis balls, food, collars, sleeping bags, and other items are always appreciated. If you can help with publicity or fundraising, please let us know. If you live close enough to us to help out, please consider coming up to walk the dogs!

Adoption Application You can now print out the GSD Rescue of Utah Adoption Application and return it to the address listed below. (Here is the same form in a much nicer pdf format for adobe acrobat reader, or in rtf form or in MS Word 2000 format.) Feel free to simply email the application to Nancy at adoptions@germanshepherdrescue.org. A signature on the application is not required as one will be obtained on the adoption contract if a dog is adopted.

In addition to the above adoption application, if you do adopt a dog from GSD Rescue of Utah, you will be asked to sign this Adoption AGREEMENT Form. (Here are the PDF version, MS Word 2000, and rtf version of the same form.)
